RE: Did you buy the right TT???

Although we had been shoppig around, our purchase was an impulse buy. When we got our new tv, the htt was nose high so we went to the dealer to get a new hitch. Hitch was about $160. DW said, wait a minute, let's look around. Two hours later we purchased the 28RLS and spent a bit more than $160. :D Only thing I really don't care for is the interior colors, a green and cranberry. DW had to have the tub, john and sink in the same room, I wanted a comfortable place to sit so the swivel rockers take care of that and we both wanted a real (?) bed and I didn't want to tow more than 30 feet so I guess this one fits the bill (for now anyways).

RE: Sandpiper (Forest River) vs Jayco Jayflight

I can't say that my Jayco has been trouble free but I can say that the dealer and Jayco have done a great job in repairing whatever I brought to their attention. If it were not for the dealer and Jayco customer service, I might have traded this unit in long ago but now everything has been taken care of including a new rear window and a new rubber roof on the slide. Yes, it took a few trips hauling the trailer back and forth, but the courtesy shown by the dealer and willingness of Jayco to take care of the problems, made this a more palatable expericence. The two year warrantee that comes with the Jayco is great and Jayco does stand behind it. I also have owned a Jayco Popup and HTT, both of which had minimal problems but were taken care of by Jayco. Also had a 98 Coleman Mesa that had a sagging roof. Dealer got me a new one even though I had bought the unit used. Good dealer service again. I owned one Rockwood and I would put it right next to an Edsel. One was enough.

RE: Closing up the trailer for the winter - moisture & mice?

Might want to check with your insurnce company if your policy covers rodent damage. If yes, that will give you some more peace of mind.

RE: Closing up the trailer for the winter - moisture & mice?

For mice, I throw some fabric softener sheets around and leave an open box of mothballs on the floor. Doesn't take that long to get the mothball odor out in the spring. I have done this in all of my rigs and not had any problems.

RE: TT why would you want one?

Having the tt really helped dw and I to clean out the closets and cellar at home. After living in the tt for three months, we realized how little we really needed and how much stuff we had at home that we really didn't need. Had two yard sales this summer, several trips to the dump, shipped stuff over to DS and just gave some stuff away. We found a set of dishes under the hall closet that had been there for about 20 years or so. We always thought it was three sets but was really a service for 12. We kept that. Family heirloom. Really enjoy snowbirding in the tt and it is great to see the walls in my cellar again.

RE: slide outs

If you plan on doing any long term camping like a month or so, the slide sure keeps the tt from getting small over time. Also being able to avoid bumping into dw while she is cooking is a big plus.

RE: Dealing with the dealership

Dealership I go to is about 40 minutes from me. I have had several items repaired or replaced on my tt but I am almost done with that stuff. Have to love the 2 year warrantees. I simply find out when he wants me to bring the trailer over, then I tell him by what date I need it, I call hiim a couple of days before to make sure the tt will be ready and then I go pick it up. Last year he only had it for two and a half months. If I had known, I wouldn't have paid for storage at my storage place for a couple of months. They do do the work and I find that if I bend a bit, it gets done and is generally good quality work. They have bailed me out on short notice a couple of times so I try to keep a good relationship with the service guys. As for buying another rig from this dealership, no way. Sales is another story.

RE: Jayco Customer Service does the right thing

I am another one that really can't complain but only compliment Jayco's customer service. On my third Jayco and they have taken care of each problem without a hassle. Even recommended me to a dealer while I was on the road and authorized the repairs immediaely--new water pump and smoke alarm. On my tt, I noticed some rust around some screws on the large picture window in the back of the trailer. The rust was on the inside of the window. I sent pictures to my dealer and Jayco authorized the complete replacement of the rear window. The trailer is now at the dealerhip having the new window put in. Their customer service and two year warrantee has to be the best.

RE: Campground in Fl

And if you find one, that's not already full, let us all know... Have to agree with you. We have tried to get into Fort Desoto Park a few times but it is always full up. DD now lives in St. Pete and she says that during the week, there may be some sites open but not on the weekends. We have stayed at Robert's RV Resort in St. Pete a few times and will be there for a month this year. Yes, it is full of snowbirds but is reasonably priced and close to Tampa and St. Pete. Sites are on the small side. Just a thought if nothing else shows up. The park is clean, nice bathrooms and friendly people but definetely not state park camping near a lake or beach.

RE: Bathroom stops for a cat

Thanks all for the suggestions. DW and I have some solutions to mull over. We will be going camping for a week the end of the month and we plan to take Angel with us to try out your suggestions. We have been working with her with a harness and I must admit it has been a funny experience. Angel acts like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders and scoots around on her stomach. She has been getting better.

RE: Bathroom stops for a cat

Okay, guess I better clarify. We will be leaving NH around December 1 so it will be on the cool side when we stop for the first two nights. CG's are pretty much closed in New England at that time of year. Most likely we won't camp until South Carolina. No, I wouldn't leave a cat or a dog or a kid in my trailer if it is going to be hot. We kind of like this cat and have had her for about 6 years from an animal shelter. I was just thinking that if it was on the cool side in the evening, that it might be okay to leave the cat in the tt for the night.

Bathroom stops for a cat

Dw and I are planning on taking our cat to Florida with us this year. Previously we have left her with friends but only for a month. We will be going for a lot longer time this year and do not feel that it would be right to leave Angel with friends for a while and then back to us. We have a tt and are trying to figure out what is going to be the best way to transport Angel. If the TT is in the yard, she likes to get inside and explore so she is familar with the tt. We are planning on having her in a cat carrier in the back of the truck and possilbly trying to let her loose in the truck while travelling. We will take about three days to get to Florida and our main concern is bathroom stops for Angel. 8 to 10 hour driving days. We have thought about putting her litter box in the tt and moving her into the tt while we are at a rest stop and hoping that she will make use of the facilities. Also, since we will be spending about two nights in motels on the way down, do you leave your cat in the tt or do you try to find a pet friendly motel? Thanks for any advice

RE: Used Hybrid "AS IS" from dealer

Got a flyer from Camping World. "60-day Limited Warranty on most major components, see salesperson for details"Gee - I didn't know Camping World sold 2 year old "used" stuff. I thought all they sold was new and still in the packaging. They do take trades so they have to sell those also. If you take a walk through a Camping World lot, (I have) they do have the used stuff, some of it good and some of it bad just like other RV dealers.

RE: Transferrable Warranties

I believe that you can transfer a Jayco warrantee over to a new owner for about $100. One of the reasons I purchased the Jayco was because of the two year warrantee. If Jayco offers that kind of warrantee, it must be pretty certain that they are building a quality product and that it will last with a minimum of problems. And Jayco does stand behind its products. For $100 for an extra year of protection, I think it would be worth it. It only takes one thing to go wrong and you got your money back especially if you are at a dealership that charges $95 to $104 an hour for labor. Two dealerships near me with those rates.

RE: flush king boo boo

Right. He didn't just fill up his take, he pressurized it. The tank probably swelled, rupturing the seals, fittings, and who knows what else. Dave This does not make sense. 1. Each tank got a roof vent, therefore you cannot pressurize the tank unless there is a pluggen roof vent. 2. If you contiue filling you will simply push the water into wherever it normally comes from. I over filled those tanks befor. The gray tank would have pushed into the shower and the black would probbably ro to the roof thrue the roof vent. NO WAY TO PRESSURIZE. Don't know if the water went up through the roof vent on the black water but I do know that the toilet overflowed and water was on the floor.

RE: Jayco 23B - Storage behind dinette

My 03 23B had a storage area behind the cushions. Great place to store the heavier jackets and spare linens. It wasn't really a shelf. If you removed the back cushion it was a storage area with about three oval slots that allowed you to access the area. Not sure why they would give up that storage space although the 23B has a lot of storage. DW and I never used it all.

RE: Slip on mirrors

Used them on my 02 Silverado and now on my 06 Silverado. No problems and I like the ability to still fold the mirrors in in tight spots like mall parking lots or narrow streets.

RE: flush king boo boo

I doubt that the wood was rotted or the screws rusted. I had the same experience when my 03 Kiwi was brand new and I was using the Flush King for the second time. I didn't know how long to backflush it. I heard a loud band and DW was hollering that there was water all over the floor in the htt. Thank goodness this was the third flush. The tank is flexible and the two metal straps are meant to only hold the tank on. As the tank filled, it expanded and put pressure on the straps which are only held on by a couple of screws. Kind of looks like when you take a long balloon and squeeze it with your fingers. Fortunately, I only broke one strap and got that fixed on the road. Not sure if this is part of the cause or not but we did have a fair amount of water in the bathroom and back of the trailer. DW and I cleaned that up and I even put paper towels against the wood to try to get what water went behind the panelling. However, just before I traded the htt, I found that I had floor rot under the back cabinat. The underbelly of the htt had a tar paper covering that may have held some water in. So don't feel alone on making this kind of mistake, others have done it also. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
